AMERICAN DREAM DROPOUT: DEVORA

AMERICAN DREAM DROPOUT: DEVORA

Pulling from the grit and storytelling of acts like Nine Inch Nails and Dolly Parton, and the scorched expanse of the Arizona desert, Devora exists somewhere beyond genre. Her latest EP, American Dream Dropout, didn’t arrive overnight. It couldn’t have. Work like this rarely does.

We caught up with her at the Gibson Showroom in Los Angeles to talk about the story behind it.

“When you don’t fit into this perfect box, that’s when all of the best art is made.”
Devora leans into the push and pull of building something that not only holds together sonically, but says something about where we are in the world.

“We just don’t know what we’re going to wake up to every day,” she notes. “The EP is about embracing the antithesis of the beauty pageants, the white picket fences of the 1950s… what used to be the American Dream just isn’t anymore.”

There’s nothing forced about the project, only perspective. American Dream Dropout doesn’t play a role—it just tells the truth.
