IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY: SHAWN MCKINNEY

Rarely do you meet someone where the phrase “jack of all trades, master of none” doesn’t apply. Shawn McKinney is the exception.

Working across sculpture, illustration, painting, and just about everything in between, Shawn’s work spans from films to music festivals.

Raised in the middle of nowhere, Ohio, Shawn left home at 18 with everything he owned packed into the back of his Ford Ranger. No backup plan, no safety net.

He began his career in Hollywood building sets and props for films like Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell.

From there, the work evolved naturally, creating immersive, physical experiences for brands like Wrangler, Pleasures, and Powerplant, as well as artists like Sierra Ferrell and Post Malone.

When you come from a small town on the opposite end of the country and land in a city like Los Angeles, the odds are rarely in your favor. Making it takes more than talent. It takes purpose, grit, and a willingness to do get the job done no matter what.

“Success is when you can set your life up the way you want it to be,” Shawn says. “Most people just think it’s money.”

Sitting in his studio in the heart of the Arts District in downtown LA surrounded by dozens of massive creations, it's clear what he means.

“It’s not about the money,” he adds. “Because if it was, I’d do anything easier than this.”
